Here are the steps:
Step 1: Look at the important realms or areas of your life. We've listed a dozen here to start your thinking:
* Family
* Friends
* Relationships
* Professional Fulfillment
* Finances
* Fun & Play
* Spirituality
* Business
* Education
* Sports
* Music and the Arts
* Contribution
Step 2: Choose one of the areas and begin visualizing. You might start by seeing the specific goals you want to have achieved by the end of the year, or by visualizing how you will feel then, or any one of a number of techniques to "transport" your mind and yourself to create what your life will be like when this has occurred.
An example: Finances - You might have specific goals or targets, such as:
- My student loans are paid off
- I have added $xxxx to my IRA/401K account
- My credit card debt is now 0
- I have $xxx in my home improvement fund
Or you could take it to another level and look at how it was accomplished:
"I am set-up to succeed with my financial goals, because I have automated payments toward my":
- monthly bills
- IRA/401K contributions
- savings
- vacations/large purchases account
- contributions
Now, broaden the targets or goals to also include how you feel about yourself and others. The idea is to enrich the experience, add color to what you see and feel, making it more real for yourself.
"Now that my monthly bills are paid automatically, I have my attention on creating new business rather than paying bills. By 'max'ing' out my IRA/401K contributions, I am insuring funds will be available for our retirement. And we're enjoying choosing and contributing to organizations and charities that support our stand for a just and sustainable world".
Now repeat the process for the other realms of your life.
Step 3: Now share it with someone. It doesn't have to be complete or perfect. In fact, it won't be complete until you've shared it with several people. These accomplishments take on an additional richness when you read them to someone. Then edit and read it to someone else. Continue this until you're completely satisfied with your accomplishments.
Step 4: Now you're clear about your 2008 accomplishments. I recommend you set an occasion in your calendar to read and re-create them once a month. This keeps the end-game present for you. It also keeps you open to resources and opportunities to fulfill on your accomplishments. This is where the "Law of Attraction*" comes in. By creating and re-creating what you want, you become a beacon for it to show up.
Here's an example. One of the accomplishments I wrote for 2007 was that I would have written a book on living a created life. The actual text of that part of my business accomplishments was:
"We have completed our first book around the 10 Habits that enhance productivity and effectiveness while decreasing your stress and worry, and have a publisher. We've used the chapters of the book as articles and topics for seminars and speaking engagements."
I have known for a couple years that a book would be a very useful way to spread the word about living the life you love in the economical manner. However, me write a book? So, I decided to look at what my business wanted rather than what I thought I could do, and then write it as an accomplishment. In June my first resource showed up, Alesia said "Rosemary, you and I have to write a book. There's a whole world out there waiting for what we have". Now, she's never written a book before either. Three months later Alesia calls again and says, "I met this wonderful woman last night. She coaches people on how to write books. Let's get her on the phone right now". The rest is history. Alesia and I, with Claudia's support have been writing our book for the past 3 months and will have our rough draft completed by the end of this month. I promise you, that this would never have happened without taking the first step, and writing my accomplishments.
Enjoy! And, if you're interested in support in writing your annual accomplishments, we're offering live web-based sessions in January and February (see below).
